Alumni Gathering: August 12, 2016

Let's enjoy a guest lecture and say farewell to departing students.

Alumni gathering and student send-off

Please join us for a guest lecture and wish local students well as they head off to college. All inter-collegiate alumni, their students and guests are welcome to attend.

Featured speaker: LTC Richard Ferguson, ARNG

Lieutenant Colonel Rich Ferguson is a National Security Fellow at Harvard University, Kennedy School of Government.

Presentation

The generational gap with social media: How the U.S. might lose the next conflict

Lt. Col. Rich Ferguson will address rapid advances made in social media, particularly by the Islamic State. This has created a “generational gap,” as ISIS and other groups demonstrate greater skill in employing social media than the more staid U.S. national security apparatus.

Ferguson will discuss how our adversaries deploy social media for operations and recuriting and illustrate how our military leadership's misunderstanding of this media has and will impact our national security capabilities.
